Both are good. But don't plan on scheduling a blog book tour the same time you are traveling for a live tour. Complete one tour, rest up for a week or so, and then embark on your second tour.
Authors who think they can do a good job scheduling live and virtual tours at the same time, have no clue how much work is involved with a blog book tour. No clue at all. One of the tours won't get the attention it needs to succeed, probably the blog tour, and then the author will complain that the silly idea didn't work for them at all. Gee, I wonder why...
One tour at a time and give each of them 100% of your energy. Easy peasy if you pay attention and follow directions.

When I'm on the road, I don't access the Internet - so I definitely try to avoid overlaps!

Some authors feel they can write all their blog tour posts ahead of time and then just let the two tours run simultaneously. What they don't stop to consider is that the hosts expect the author to check in with the blog multiple times during the day and comment or answer questions.

I have a couple of book signings and these are relatively easy. I communicate via email with the bookstores, they order 10-20 books, and I show up.
I can see Book Blog Tours are far more involved. There's a certain level of committment nedded to make it successful. Time is one. I can see spending 20-30 hours a week on a book blog tour of 15 stops.
In comparison, a book signing takes up maybe 5-6 hours, and this includes the two hours of the actual event.

I certainly agree with this post. If you do a blog tour right you visit and answer all visitors that stop by to comment at your hosts blog. It makes you more visible, and you create a caring profile of you and your books.

After having completed one blog book tour, I can honestly tell you that it takes a great deal of time to do it right. Responding to each visitor who leaves a comment is important. Some people leave long, thoughtful comments. These require thoughtful responses.Effective blog posts generate more involved comments than others and so, require more time from the author.
The author also has to manage (or babysit) the whole process. Things go wrong. Posts don't appear when they should, etc.
Bottom line - if you don't leave yourself enough time during the blog tour, you will have wasted all the time and effort you put into setting it up.
ya i agree with you that Both are good. I have completed one blog book tour. Thanks for your nice post.
Personally I hope I can get away with the blog tour only when the time comes -- being the borderline agoraphobe that I am. LOL
